"Yarn lesson", Grigory G. Myasoedov - description of the painting

Yarn lesson - Grigory Grigoryevich Myasoedov. 59 x 50 cm

The middle of the XIX century. Among his early works was this one, awarded a small silver medal.

Peasant House. Sunlight allows you to see a little of the situation inside: a bench covered with a cloth, bast shoes hanging on a dark log wall, drying clothes on a rope.

An old woman sits behind a spinning wheel near a window on a wooden bench. The time has come to teach the granddaughter a female craft. Her tanned wrinkled face is calm. Old, knobby fingers with swollen veins dexterously pull the thread from the tow, hands mechanically perform the usual work. What does she recall? About your first lessons? There is a light, understanding smile on her lips, her eyes are full of warmth and tenderness.

Affectionately pressed a little girl to her. In the sunlight, snow-white skin glows, a light blush turns pink on the cheeks, pale hair is cast with pale gold. Beautiful gray-blue eyes look off into the distance, a little bit sad face. Silently she sits, little hands calmly lie on her lap, holding the sleepy kitten in her arms. What is she thinking after listening to her grandmother? Trying on adulthood, realizing that the time for games has passed?

The spindle rotates quietly, winding an even and strong thread. And so life goes from a blossoming youth to a hoary age. Therefore, the artist uses different colors, portraying his heroines. The calm, dull dark blue shades of grandmother's clothes, the dull terracotta tones of the finish, the dull burgundy color of the tied scarf, the simple shirt made from unbleached linen linen - all this emphasizes the wisdom and severity of the older generation.

Against their background, the grayish-white shirt of a girl decorated with a red-blue embroidery, tied up with a variegated belt, looks elegant and fun. Several rows of small glass beads shimmer over the neck. Even the scarf lying on its knees has a festive cherry color.

A very sincere and lyrical picture, filled with love and light sadness, long remaining in memory.
